The Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate), the most famous landmark of the city, turned from a symbol of German division into symbol of German unity due to the political changes in 1989. The building is one of the largest and most beautiful creations of German classicism and forms the end of the magnificent boulevard Unter den Linden.  

In 1999 the Reichstagsgebäude (Reichstag Building) became the seat of The German Bundestag, the national Parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany. To serve this function the historical building of Paul Wallot was redesigned by the British architect Sir Norman Foster and equipped with a glass dome.
